Description

Dynaball – Air layering ball comes in three options.

  • Green Dynaball
  • Transparent Dynaball
  • Hybrid Dynaball – One half transparent, the other half green

Dynaball for air layering is a South African developed product that make it easy to do air layering.  Its an improvement on the old air layering balls where you needed to close the ball with cable ties.  It now got its own 4 clips for easy locking of the two halves onto the air layered branch.

Dynaball Features

  • Dynaball design ensure that all air layers got the same volume of growing medium
  • Small funnels on both sides for easy watering – no need for watering with syringe
  • 4 easy to use clip attachments – no more need for cable ties
  • Sturdy plastic design that will last a long time
  • Enough volume for substrate for root development
  • The green parts of Dynaball is UV protected
  • The transparent part of Dynaball allows you to see if there’s any root development without opening it disturbing root development.
  • A combination of one half green and other half transparent give the option with plants with sensitive roots to keep the green side on top for protection against sunlight and the transparent half at the bottom away from direct sun where you can still note root development

How to use it

Prepare your growing medium – For best results use sphagnum moss.  But you can also use coco peat, vermiculite, perlite or any other suitable medium

  • Choose the branch that you want to air layer
  • Clean the section of the branch where you want to make the air layer, big enough for dynaball to fit – remove small branches, leaves, etc.
  • Make two clean cuts around the branch 1-2 cm apart (you can also use the thickness of the branch as an indicator)
  • Remove the bark between the two cuts and add rooting hormone where you want the new roots to form
  • Fill both sides of the dynaball with a suitable growing medium
  • Place the dynaball over the cut that you made
  • Secure the two halves with the clips.
  • Water as needed.

New roots should develop within two to 6 months, depending on the species.

When enough roots developed cut the branch off under the Dynaball, remove the Dynaball halves and plant in a suitable growing container.  If the roots are young and soft we plant the root ball as is and when the plant is growing strongly we repot it the next repotting season and then spread out the root ball.  You can spread the roots out immediately but be careful that you do not break off the newly developed roots and spoil all your efforts.
