They have managed a bonsai garden with trees donated to them by several persons, including Beckie Lucas, one of the first persons to do bonsai in South Africa. The curator of the gardens have spent a lot of time and effort in promoting bonsai and they are building up a bonsai garden open to the public. Anybody willing to donate bonsai to them to help improve their collection are welcome to contact the botanical gardens in Stellenbosch University and speak to the curator. Its a brilliant idea and will also help to establish a bonsai collection open to the public in the Western Cape under the care of the botanical gardens.
